The Recovery Frame in Daily Practice

Module 1: Psychiatric Rehabilitation Foundations ยท Lesson 3 of 3

Recovery language is easy to say and hard to practice under caseload pressure.

Recovery-oriented practice shows up in small choices: who talks first in the session, whose words appear in the goal statement, whether a missed appointment is treated as noncompliance or as data. Hope is an intervention. So is expecting competence.

Build a habit of asking three questions at every visit: What matters most to you right now? What is getting in the way? What would you like us to work on together today? These questions keep the plan alive between reviews and generate the documentation you need anyway.

Key takeaways

  • Use the participant's own words in goals
  • Treat setbacks as assessment data, not as failures
