Boundaries, Alliance, and the Helping Relationship

Module 2: Core PRA Principles and the Practitioner Role ยท Lesson 2 of 3

The relationship is the delivery vehicle for every skill you teach.

Warmth without structure produces dependence; structure without warmth produces dropout. Aim for a working alliance: shared goal, shared task, and a real bond. Name the purpose of every session out loud in one sentence.

Boundaries are protective for both parties. Personal phone numbers, rides in your personal vehicle, loans, and social media contact are common early mistakes. Discuss all of them with your supervisor before, not after.

Key takeaways

  • State the session purpose in one sentence at the start
  • Bring boundary questions to supervision proactively
